Anyone who has spent time on or near a college campus is likely aware that there are typically multiple pedestrians in the area. As a result, caution and vigilance is especially necessary to help ensure that no one is injured. Unfortunately, authorities are currently investigating an accident in which a West Virginia University student suffered a personal injury that ultimately proved fatal.

The incident that led to the young woman’s death happened on a night in early February. According to reports, the 21-year-old victim was crossing the street in a crosswalk near the university’s recreation center when she was struck by a vehicle. She was transported to the hospital where she passed away from the injuries she suffered in the collision.

Police say that the accident remains under investigation. Officials are reconstructing the scene in order to make a determination of cause. The investigation must be finalized before any decisions regarding criminal charges will be made.

Unfortunately, instead of looking forward to their daughter’s graduation, the parents of this young victim are now planning her funeral. Often, the expenses that follow a tragic loss such as this create an additional burden for families who are already grieving. To help minimize the financial harm, many people in West Virginia and elsewhere who have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence choose to consult with a personal injury attorney. While a successfully presented case will likely do little to reduce their grief, it could provide the necessary financial security to allow them to cover all expenses associated with the tragedy.
